How will you change from Quarantine?

During this time of lockdown, I feel like it is necessary for all of us to find ways to stay positive, fill our brains with knowledge, expand our minds by finding new ways to be creative, and appreciate our health and the health of others.

I have always wanted to start a “blog”, not to post pictures of myself and my perspective on my fashion taste, but more of a place to express my mind and offer some tips on the thing I love the most - photography.

I am the type of the person that wakes up early to get a few hours of productivity before the rest of the city begins their day. I find myself feeling guilty if I get out of bed past 7:30am, seeing the act of sleeping in as lazy, even on the weekends. Where did that come from? I mean when I was a teenager, sleeping in was the best thing in the world. I’ve lost that freedom of allowing myself to enjoy the feeling of being in bed past a time that is outside the societal “working hours”. Granted, I LOVE waking up early, I feel my best when I am up before the rest of the city is up, but there are some days where I just feel tired and I don’t allow myself to be okay with that.

I also find it hard to allow myself a few hours a day to learn new skills. When I was younger, building my career, I used to sit down for hours watching tutorials, learning new skills, hungry to expand my knowledge. Now that I am older and have a successful career, I have drifted from that curious side of myself, thinking that all my time needs to be spent towards my current work instead of mastering new skills. Or what about meditating or working out? Yeah I used to do those religiously everyday, but found myself drifting from it all due to work being busy and me being lazy on everything else outside of work.

A common theme here is the “used-to” and the “but”, aka “excuses”. It’s funny how we find ways to justify the things we do. “Oh I worked 8 hours on my feet today, so I don’t need to work out. Besides, Im too tired.” or “I have to write a few emails this morning before work so I can’t meditate today”. Sounds like a load of bullshit and truck full of excuses.

With Corona locking us in our homes, time has taken a whole new perspective. The hand on the clock doesn’t mean anything anymore. Sleep in until 8:30 on a Saturday? Hell yes! (What does Saturday even mean anymore?) We essentially have all the time in the world, so what’s the rush on anything? There’s no work right now so all I have is all this time to do what I always made excuses to not have enough time to do. That 3 hour Adobe Illustrator tutorial I’ve been wanting to watch for the past 3 years will now just be a fraction of my day, and then I have hours to do so many other things! Or that 20 minute meditation that I never had time for in the morning? Piece of cake. Oh yeah, what about all the reading I wanted to do on Google Analytics and hunker down on learning SEO? Welp, I have plenty of time for that now. Have you wanted to learn how to use a camera and learn more about film photography? Well you have no excuses now, learn!

The important thing for us to take from this time is understanding how we can maximize this time off for our benefit. How can we use this time off to put us in a place of greater success when this madness is over? Will you leave the lockdown as a brighter individual who is re-inspired and is ready to take on the world with a new perspective? Or will you just waste this time watching mindless TV for 30 days? Whatever makes you happy is what I want for you, truly, but I also want you to be the best version of yourself!

One more important thing we have to all learn is how to merge this new way of life with your old way of life once its available to you again. Will you fall back into your old habits? Or will you find a way to be good to your body and your mind despite all the work you have to do. At the end of the day all we have is our health, and that should always be our number one priority.

Anyways, enough of this. STAY HAPPY AND HEALTHY EVERYONE!
